Accessibility
Our aim is to make Watergate Bay Hotel as accessible as possible for all of our guests. To explore our spaces in advance of your visit, please view our virtual tour which gives you a 360 view of all our bedrooms and main facilities.
Hotel
We have an automatic sliding entrance door and two lifts giving access to all public areas of the hotel. There are two accessible car parking bays in the front of the hotel. A sloping boardwalk links the entrance of the hotel to Sea Lane and the beach. We have accessible toilets within the hotel and in both The Beach Hut and Zacry's restaurants.
Both our reception and Kids’ Zone reception desks are fitted with under counter hearing loops. We also have a portable loop unit which can be used across the various communal spaces and we have vibrating pagers, for use by guests or team that are hard of hearing, that will alert the user to alarms that have been set off in the hotel and Beach Lofts.
All guests can access our strong and stable WIFI connection.
We have a range of seating options at different heights to ensure comfortable seating for all.
Our staff have undertaken training to improve their knowledge and understanding of accessibility.
Bedrooms
We have two bedrooms which have been adapted to be more accessible and have fully accessible bathrooms. One is a family suite.
A shower chair and grab rails can be provided on request. Equipment can be hired from Mobility Hire Cornwall.
The beach lofts are accessible by a long external flight of stairs. We were unable to install a lift due to the cliffside location.
Swim Club
The swimming pool has a shallow end with steps for easy entry. There is a wheelchair lift alongside the stairs in the ocean room and we have a mobile pool hoist (down lifting with weight 28 seconds, up lifting with weight 22 seconds). We have accessible changing facilities and toilets in Swim Club.
Restaurants
All our restaurants are accessible by slope, ramp or lift where required. They all have accessible toilets.
Kids' Zone
We’re very proud of our Kids’ Zone space and team who are passionate about creating spaces that children can enjoy and feel comfortable in. This includes:
a designated Special Educational Needs and Disabilities lead
Level 1 Makaton trained team members
Experienced deep pressure massage team members
Focus on sensory play and toys
Communication supports such as visual timetables
A selection of X box games that support SEND development
We also offer 1-2-1 SEND support for children during their stay or private sessions.
Get in touch with our Kids’ Zone team before your stay to find out more and how they can tailor sessions.
The games room is wheelchair accessible and the outside area of the Kids’ Zone is wheelchair accessible via the Living Space deck entrance.
Quiet spaces
We have a number of spaces which can be booked if a quieter space is needed. In these spaces both lighting and background music can be controlled independently and they can be closed off from main crowds.
We also provide a quiet space on the beach at larger events we put on such as Arts on the Beach.
Beach
The beach is fully accessible to wheelchair users via a slope.
Wavehunters at the Extreme Academy work in collaboration with Coastal Crusaders who provide accessible surf lessons. The Wave Project also runs accessible surf sessions from Watergate Bay, where we store their kit which includes seated surf boards, a beach wheelchair and an adult changing table.
Sand wheelchair
During spring and summer we have a Natural Access sand wheelchair which is available for use. This is bookable through Wavehunters at the Extreme Academy.
Parking
We have allocated disabled car parking at the rear of the hotel.
If you have any questions regarding accessibility in any areas of Watergate Bay, please talk to our reservations team at the time of booking, or call us on 01637 860543.
