Restaurant Emily Scott opened in the building shortly after as a summer pop-up, her restaurant now serves a set seafood menu in a new permanent location on the sea wall.
The building for Fifteen Cornwall was previously a two story restaurant called The Beach Hut. Following renovations Fifteen Cornwall opened in 2006 on the top floor. Over 13 years, Fifteen Cornwall and its charity supported and successfully trained over 100 disadvantaged local young people and gave them opportunities as chefs in the hospitality industry.
Following Emily's pop-up the building was redesigned into seven beach lofts for Watergate Bay hotel.
In May 2006 Jamie Oliver’s Fifteen Cornwall opened its doors for the first time to the people of Cornwall. Having worked relentlessly throughout 2005 to convert what was the top floor of The Beach Hut, into a modern, bright restaurant with 120 covers and to recruit a full team of staff, Fifteen Cornwall opened to much anticipation, and people’s excitement for the restaurant hadn't faltered since.
Fifteen Cornwall saw over 100 apprentices trained, served over 400’000 diners and remodelled and redecorated the restaurant to make the most of the great location and food.
And speaking of food, Fifteen Cornwall’s signature style of Italian inspired, rustic, honest food took centre stage, with the introduction of wood fired vegetables, char-grilled fish and juicy steaks. Sourcing ingredients from Cornwall and the South West getting a real taste of the county in a truly innovative way; think tortellini of sweet Cornish squash, followed by Longhorn rib eye or crispy sea bass, washed down with carefully selected wines.
Head Chef, Andy Appleton oversaw everything kitchen, menu and apprentice related, often travelling to Italy and further gathering inspiration and ideas to recreate at Fifteen.
In 2013 came the antipasti table offering a new way to enjoy the bold Italian flavours on offer. Here you can graze on little plates of delicious food such as olives, ‘nduja on toast, arancini or indulge in the pig and pickle platter.
And if you had really wanted to spice up your evening, an order of one of the famous cocktails. From the classic Cosmopolitan to a Hemingway Daiquiri, a Lemon Fizz to an Orange and Vanilla Mootini they had it covered.
