Sloe gin spritz recipe

Juniper, sloes and notes of orange and lemon zest, cinnamon, clove and nutmeg make up The Wrecking Coast's honey sloe gin liqueur. The Wrecking Coast Distillery is inspired by the coast of its namesake off Tintagel, Cornwall. Unique blends, a bespoke hand's on approach and wild nautical bottle-art by local artist John Blight makes this gin rather special.

Ingredients

  • 35ml Wrecking Coast honey sloe gin

  • 10ml Gomme/sugar syrup

  • 1/2 Lime juice

  • 50ml Champagne/Prosecco

  • Dash of soda

Method

Served in a wine glass over ice

  1. Add sloe gin, gomme and juice of half a lime to your cocktail shaker.

  2. Shake with ice and strain into your wine glass.

  3. Top with champagne or prosecco, and a dash of soda.

  4. Garnish with a wheel of lime if you like.

History of sloe gin

Historically, the reason for the abundance of blackthorn in the UK goes back to the 17th century. The land was broken up with hedgerows and the blackthorn was a natural way of separating farms and properties. It wasn't long before the pairing of alcohol and sloes became common. Although, originally dubbed as a poor man's port, by the 19th-century distillers had begun to take notice. Popularity grew and the Sloe Gin Fizz was born, and it continues to grow with the help of new ranges and flavours.
