The Beatles at Watergate Bay

We’ve uncovered a pretty amazing piece of history about Watergate Bay. In 1967 The Beatles, yes, The Beatles, filmed part of the Magical Mystery Tour here at Watergate Bay!

Magical Mystery Tour

On 13th September 1967 John, Paul, George and Ringo came to Newquay to complete the South West leg of the tour. Although they stayed at The Atlantic Hotel the boys ventured further afield to film at a few beaches on the North Cornwall coast including Porth, Holywell and Watergate Bay!

Their visit to Cornwall was brief, a total of three days, but the impact they had still lives on. A plaque was erected in 2002 on the Killacourt, above Towan to commemorate their visit. And most recently the ‘Newquay Beatles Mystery Bus Tour’ was launched, taking fans to all the spots known to have been visited by the Beatles to the accompaniment of their infamous songs.

So now when you stay or come to visit us at Watergate Bay Hotel you can say that you’re walking in the footsteps of the legendary Beatles.

Check online for our latest offers at the hotel. We look forward to seeing you!
