The sea, the sea!

Allison Sadler on the joy, healing and solace time by the sea gives her… (3 minute read)

A free spirit by nature and award-winning designer, entrepreneur, blogger and mentor by day, Allison is on a mission to encourage creativity by empowering others to embrace their true selves. Whether curating beautiful pieces for her lifestyle store, People, hosting workshops or styling interior spaces, nothing gets Allison more fired up than a fresh project.

Earlier this summer, she was one of the first lucky few to stay in our brand-new beach lofts.

With dreams of upping sticks and moving to Cornwall (or at least snapping up a camper van for spontaneous Cornish adventures), Allison is a regular visitor to Watergate Bay. Having experienced some challenging health issues over the years, spending time near the sea has played an important role in her convalescence.

We caught up with Allison to find out what being by the waves means to her, the first thing she does when she reaches the shore – and why a bracing sea swim is a non-negotiable part of any Cornish escape.

For me, being by the sea means one thing: holidays! It's time to relax, unwind and let go completely.

The first thing I do when I arrive at the shoreline is head to the beach to stare at the sea and breathe it all in. And, if I'm feeling brave enough (which is usually always!) I'll dip my toes in and have a paddle too. You just can't beat that crisp cold water to wash all your worries away and make you feel invigorated and alive.

Nothing else compares to being by the coast, especially Watergate Bay. It's like coming home: an instant dose of calm, happiness and freedom.

Staying in the beach lofts at Watergate Bay, waking up and falling asleep to the sound of the sea – it’s the ultimate dream come true for a beach lover like me. Being so close to the elements and the forever changing colours and light connects me on a deeper level to my surroundings.

No distractions, no pressure, just living at a slower pace and feeling at one with nature

By the sea, I feel like I can roam freely for miles and miles without the hustle and bustle of city life interrupting my inner peace. No distractions, no pressure, just living at a slower pace and feeling at one with nature.

I'm a free spirit through and through, so staying true to myself is how I live my life wherever I am. But being by the sea and being surrounded by wide open spaces and wild rugged coastlines is even more liberating because it gives me that extra element of freedom I can't find in the city.

For the last few years I've been dealing with a few health issues, and slowing down and living life at a gentler pace has been at the heart of my healing journey.
I've made some big lifestyle changes along the way and my number one priority has been heading to Cornwall and the coast as often as I can to fill up on those restorative vibes.

What do I like to do when I’m at the beach? Absolutely nothing! I like to find a nice quiet spot away from the crowds, where I can chill and watch the waves rolling in, having the occasional invigorating dip (in my undies) to cool off and awaken my senses. All of that, followed by a beach barbecue (and mojito in The Living Space) as the sun goes down, is my perfect kind of day.

Rain or shine, I never leave Cornwall without a swim in the sea. Immersing yourself in those waves is just the best feeling in the world. It’s energising and exhilarating all at the same time.

No matter what I'm going through in my life, the power of the sea never fails to work its magic on me. Emotionally, mentally and spiritually, it works wonders for my wellbeing and always soothes my mind, body and soul on a different level. EVERYTHING just feels so much better by the sea!

Rain or shine, I never leave Cornwall without a swim in the sea. Immersing yourself in those waves is just the best feeling in the world. It’s energising and exhilarating all at the same time.

Whatever the weather or season, the beach is equally as beautiful throughout the year. Be it January or July the mood is always magical and leaves me feeling well rested and recharged.
